First Check, the health information vertical under DataLEADS, is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Senior Health Reporter to join our team and play a crucial role in supporting its mission to verify health-related claims and combat misinformation. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with a diverse team of experts and gain hands-on experience in the field of health communication, reporting and fact-checking.

Joining : Immediate. The role will require you to work at our office located in New Delhi.

Key Responsibilities :

• Research and execute engaging, accurate and informative health related news stories, long form features, and investigative stories in multimedia formats— text and visual— while meeting strict deadlines.

• Pitch original stories in multimedia formats  and execute them in a timely manner.

• Develop and maintain sources in the health and healthcare sector, including the Union and state health ministries, and regulatory agencies.

• Conduct thorough research to verify the accuracy of health-related claims and information. This involves cross-referencing multiple reputable sources and databases to ensure the integrity of the information.

• Work closely with doctors, data scientists, and journalists to gather and analyse data for fact-checking purposes.

• Work closely with the social media team on managing First Check’s online presence, creating engaging content, monitoring interactions, and promoting published content.

• Stay updated on current health news trends and contribute to proactive strategies to address emerging issues.

Requirements:

• Minimum 2-3 years’ experience covering health as a beat for a newsroom.

• Minimum bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.

• Proven track record of being able to build and maintain sources in health. 

• Experience in working with multimedia formats, including shooting, scripting and editing visual stories, will be an added plus. 

• Strong research and analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to critically evaluate sources.

• Proficiency in using online research tools and databases is essential.

• Familiarity with basic fact-checking and OSINT tools like Advanced Search, Google Lens, Google Trends.

• Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment and adapt to a fast-paced work setting

• Build responsive web applications using React.js
• Develop and maintain WordPress websites, including customizations and basic plugin tweaks
• Create cross-platform mobile apps using Flutter for internal tools and user-facing applications
• Implement and maintain backend services or API endpoints using Node.js (with support)
• Integrate with REST APIs and Firebase services (Auth, Firestore, Notifications)
• Ensure consistent UI/UX across web and mobile platforms
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to test, debug, and deploy updates

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Applicants from other academic backgrounds with proven experience are also welcome.
• Proficiency in JavaScript and React.js, including state management, hooks, and component-based architecture
• Experience building mobile apps using Flutter (or similar technologies)
• Working knowledge of WordPress, including theme customization and content management
• Basic experience with Node.js for backend services or API development
• Familiarity with REST APIs, Firebase (Auth, Firestore, Messaging), and Git-based workflows
• Solid understanding of responsive web design and mobile-first development
• Ability to write clean, maintainable code and work collaboratively across teams

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• Experience deploying apps to Play Store or TestFlight (even via guided processes)
• Understanding of basic security, performance optimization, or SEO best practices
• Exposure to other technologies like Next.js or Tailwind CSS
• Portfolio or GitHub with live web/mobile examples or side projects
